Coy Gene Walton, 75, of Troy Mills, died Friday, Feb. 19, 2016, at UnityPoint St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids.
Coy was born Aug. 15, 1940, in Troy Mills, Iowa, the son of Carl Ray and Wilma Gertrude (McCright) Walton. He was a 1959 graduate of Troy Mills High School. He married Bonnie Dale Baty on June 18, 1961. Coy went to work for his father at C. Walton and Son Trucking until his enlistment into the U.S. Army in 1963. He was stationed in Germany until his discharge in 1965. Coy and Bonnie opened the Walker Sale Barn in 1973 and operated it until its closing in 2002. He also travelled all over the nation working as a truck driver for Jensen Transport for over 30 years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.
Coy is survived by his wife, Bonnie of Troy Mills; a daughter, Teresa (Mark) Mumaw of Walker; a son, Chris (Angie) Walton of Coggon; seven grandchildren, Shelby Walton, Cody, Cameron and Cayden Mefferd and Remy and McKenna Mumaw; a sister, Zona Holub, Coggon; a niece and nephew; and his faithful companion, Missy the Schnauzer.
Coy was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Carol Lee Thompson; and a niece, Suzette Sherrets.
A visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24, at Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory in Independence.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes for donations to be made to the Troy Mills Legion Post 712, 3191 Coggon Rd., Troy Mills, IA 52344.
