Donald J. Walters, 69, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2015, at St. Luke's Hospital. Mass of the Resurrection will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, at St. Jude Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment, with military honors, will take place at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
Donald was born Oct. 22, 1946, in Waukon, Iowa, to Leon and Dorothy (Lloyd) Walters. After graduating from high school, Donald served with the U.S. Army Reserves during the Vietnam War. He was united in marriage to Donna Nadine Horn on Oct. 30, 1993, in Cedar Rapids.
He worked as a project manager with Pearson Wall Systems.
He was an outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting and boating. He loved to travel and go RV-ing, and he especially treasured the time he spent with his family.
Donald is survived by his wife, Donna; six children, Brian Walters of Cedar Rapids, Christie Hoffman (David) of Hiawatha, Shawn Hoffman of Marion, Jeff Hoffman of Creston, Kim Hoffman of Monticello and Amy Hoffman of Lebanon, Mo.; 15 grandchildren; many loving great-grandchildren; brother, Dale Walters of Newhall; sister, Peggy Pugmire of Cedar Rapids; several nieces, nephews and dear friends; as well as special dogs, Daisy and Sasha.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; daughter-in-law, Karleene Walters; and one niece.
Memorials in Donald's name may be directed to the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha.
