'On The Record' Podcast: Palo firefighters remember Stephen Cook
Trish Mehaffey Jul. 14, 2016 4:05 pm
This week, On the Record talks about Stephen Cook, a City Rapids water division worker and Palo volunteer firefighter, who was a victim of a vehicular homicide in April 2015.
Lawson Chadwick was sentenced Monday to up to 40 years in prison. He pleaded guilty in May to homicide by vehicle while under the influence of methamphetamine and amphetamines and first-degree theft as a habitual offender.
Chadwick admitted during the plea hearing to driving under the influence of methamphetamine and amphetamines on April 17, 2015, when he led police on a short high-speed chase before running a stop sign and crashing into a van driven by Cook. Cook, 35, of Palo, was ejected from the van and died the next day.
My guests this week are two Palo volunteer firefighters, Shirley Harrison and Keith Bisson, who worked alongside Cook for several years. Many times, there is so much information about the defendants in cases like these but not much is heard about the victims, so Harrison and Bisson are going to share their memories of Cook as a co-worker and friend.
On the Record, a weekly podcast covering crime, courts and other legal topics, is hosted by Trish Mehaffey and produced by Clare Murphy.
