Reinhardt, John

John Reinhardt, 65, died Sunday, June 30, 2013, at his residence from cancer. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 6, at St. John Lutheran Church in Keystone with the Rev. B. Andrew Wright officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by Merkel-Bockholt American Legion Post 107 of Keystone. Private Interment will be held at the Keystone Cemetery. Visitation also will be held at the church from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday.

A memorial fund has been established for Eastern Iowa Honor Flights and Benton Community Scholarship Fund in John's name.

John was born Dec. 14, 1947, at the Corn Belt Hospital in Belle Plaine to William and Martha (Glenn) Reinhardt. He was confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church April 15, 1962. He attended Blairstown School through 11th grade and graduated in 1966 with the first consolidated class of Benton Community Schools. He graduated from area X, now Kirkwood Community College, in 1967 where he studied auto mechanics.

On Dec. 16, 1967, he was united in marriage to Ann Schild at Blairstown. They moved to Keystone where John was employed at Fred Schneider Implement. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1966 and served on the USS Duluth from 1968 to 1970 in Vietnam during the 1968 Tet Offensive and the 1969 Prisoner Exchange. He was a member of Merkel-Bockholt American Legion Post #107 of Keystone. After his discharge, he returned to Keystone and worked at Sindt Implement until 1974 when he and Ann started Keystone Five Seasons Inc. He retied in 2008.

John was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and Keystone Turners. He served on the Keystone City Council, Turner Board and was retired from the Keystone Volunteer Fire Department.

He loved to snowmobile, traveling to many states and west Yellowstone. John and daughter, Tricia, planted over 1,500 trees at the farm. He enjoyed camping at the farm, NASCAR and Indy Car Races and winter vacations to Mazatlan, Mexico.

John is survived by his wife, Ann; his daughter and son-in-law, Tricia and Buck Carl; his sister, Linda (Dean) Krueger; his brother, Wayne (Colleen) Reinhardt; his aunt Noreen (Les) Craig; and his in-laws, Dick and Mildred Schild.

He was preceded in death by his parents and son, John Matthew.

The family wants to express special thanks to Hospice Compassus, Hall-Perrine Center, Dr. Wilbur, Dr. Merfeld, Dr. Hlavin and as John called them, “his oncology angels.
