Evelyn K. Knockel, 98, of Cascade, died Monday, June 15, 2015, at 1:35 p.m., at Shady Rest Care Center in Cascade. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 17, at the Reiff Funeral Home in Cascade, where a Cascade American Legion Auxiliary service will be held at 4:30 p.m. and a wake service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Services for Evelyn will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 18, at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Cascade with the Rev. Douglas Loecke officiating. Burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery in Cascade.
Evelyn was born Nov. 30, 1916, in Farley, Iowa, the daughter of John and Philomenia (Leytem) Moriarity. She received her education in the Farley area rural schools. On April 15, 1941, she was united in marriage to Howard Knockel at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Cascade. Evelyn loved the three B's, bowling, bridge and bingo. She is the last of the original eight bridge players.
She was a member of St. Matthias Parish in Cascade and the Cascade American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by two sons, Dick (Barb) Knockel of Cedar Rapids and Pat Knockel (friend, Carla) of Winter Park, Fla.; three grandchildren, Laura Knockel of North Liberty, Leslie (Tom) Lewis and Lynnsey Knockel, all of Cedar Rapids; a granddaughter-in-law, Amy Bartels; two great-grandchildren, Ashly Fagen and Kayla Fagen; three stepgreat-grandchildren, Brandy Merfeld, Cris Bartels and Erick Bartels; 11 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters; six sisters-in-law; and a brother-in-law.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother, Vi (Tucker) Moriarity; her husband, Howard H. Knockel, on Jan. 23, 2006; a daughter, Joyce Bartels, in September 1967; a grandson, Roger Bartels, on Feb. 4, 2009; one great-great-grandson; five brothers; a sister; six sisters-in-law; and seven brothers-in-law.
