Peg was born July 7, 1931, in Madisonville, Ky., the daughter of Prentice Lenus and Virginia Wagner (Lodge) Bunton. She grew up in Madison, Ind., and graduated with a chemistry degree from Indiana University. While at IU, she pledged to the sorority Delta Gamma and continued this connection for many years. Peg met Jim Tolzmann, her husband of 59 years, in the chemistry department at IU. Jim and Peg raised their children in North St. Paul, Minn. They also cherished friendships and adventures while residing in Lakeway, Texas, and Coralville/Iowa City.
Peg celebrated life through family, children, grandchildren, friends, gardening, music, travel, recreation, bridge, arts and crafts, baking, cooking, nature and entertaining.
Peg was dedicated to caring for others. She served as a volunteer with many organizations, including the Lakeway Texas Service League, Society for the Blind, Hospice, United Way, Girls Scouts and Warner Nature Center. She was a dedicated member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in North St. Paul, Shepard of the Hills Lutheran Church in Austin, Texas, and Zion Lutheran in Iowa City.
Peg is survived by her four children, Paul (Janet) Tolzmann of Golden Valley, Minn., Anne (Keith) Obermeyer of Excelsior, Minn., Jean (Rick) Dobyns of Iowa City and Mary (Brian) Weeks of Prairie du Sac, Wis.; nine grandchildren, Andrew, Diane and Erik (Kelly) Tolzmann, Matthew and Daniel Obermeyer, Lynn (Ryan) Ahlers, Janet (Tim) Mundell, Evan Weeks and Renee (Karl) Gesch; brother, "Bud" (Sally) Bunton of Powell, Ohio, and Fort Myers, Fla.; brother-in-law, Charles (Helen) Tolzmann of Sun City West, Ariz.; nieces, Sherrell (Keith) Welcker, Linda (Tim) Holland and Gail Bunton; and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Peg was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; daughter-in-law, Gayle (Roe) Tolzmann; and nephew, Robert Bunton.
