Marvin William Evers, 89, of rural Tipton, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2017, at West Ridge Care Center, Cedar Rapids, following a lengthy battle with Parkinson's disease. Family and friends may gather at Fry Funeral Home, Tipton,

on Friday, Oct. 20, from 4 to 7 p.m. for a time of visitation. Funeral services for Marvin will be held on Saturday, Oct. 21,

at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Tipton. In honoring Marvin's wishes, he will be cremated following the funeral service. Private family inurnment will be held at Red Oak Cemetery, Tipton, at a later date.

A memorial in Marvin's honor has been established.

Marvin was born June 4, 1928, to Fred and Anna (Rehmke) Evers in Maquoketa, Iowa. He attended Clarence High School before beginning his journey in farming. Marvin was united in marriage to the late Marlene Nelson on Sept. 1, 1950, in Grand Mound, Iowa. They were blessed with four children: Daniel, Kirk, Kevin and Nancy.

Marvin spent his employment years doing what he loved, farming. He began as a hired hand and then partnered with a farmer before renting a farm. His hard work and dedication paid off and he finally was able to purchase his own farm northeast of Tipton. Marvin enjoyed polka music and dancing and was a member of the Eastern Iowa Polka Club.

Surviving Marvin are his children, Daniel (Cathy) Evers of Cedar Rapids, Kirk (Marilyn) Evers of Turlock, Calif., Kevin (Mary Jo) Evers of Cedar Rapids and Nancy (Don) Finch of Plano, Texas; 12 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren, with two on the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and three siblings, Darrel and Frederick Evers and Mary Ann Fehling.
