More mixed-use buildings to open in North Liberty

Additional mixed-used buildings will open in North Liberty sometime in the first half of 2015, the project's marketing director said.

Mike Bails of Cameron Way Partners said the business is amid construction on two 24-unit condominiums for rent, along with a nearly 6,000-square-foot commercial building near Kyodai Japanese Restaurant on Cameron Way in North Liberty. Plans began in 2011, when the North Liberty planning commission first recommended approval for the project.

The condos will have 12 two-bedroom spaces at roughly 1,000 square feet each. Bails said they will be pretty spacious, with larger decks to attract the young executive population. The buildings also will have 12 one-bedroom apartments, which will include a den.

'They want something a little nicer but aren't ready to purchase yet,” he said.

Bails expects three tenants to occupy the commercial building. He is working out an agreement with the first tenant, an unnamed insurance and investments company. He anticipates the remaining two will be similar to the first - small businesses using it for office space.

He anticipates the commercial space will be the slowest to fill, but thinks the condos will fill quickly.

These developments will join the sets of mixed-used buildings Cameron Way has already been building in North Liberty. The company also owns two commercial buildings and condominium buildings on Pond View Drive.

Bails said North Liberty city officials had been accommodating with the company's plans and in turn he said North Liberty has benefitted from the projects.

Construction in North Liberty by Cameron way also includes a 'face-lift” for the Kyodai Japanese restaurant. The company is adding additional stone and will repaint the facade, with a screen being placed near the top of the building with additional lighting.

'It will be a completely different building,” Bails said.
