Fred was united in marriage on June 8, 1958, to Joyce Morris in Center Point. He took over the family trucking company in 1961 and later drove semi over the road for Nash Finch in Cedar Rapids, where he continued until his retirement in 1999. After retirement, Fred enjoyed keeping busy and drove semi for Carson Grain and spent his winters in Texas with friends.
In his younger years, Fred enjoyed tractor pulling and was well known with his Oliver 88 "Freeloaders Toy." He enjoyed fishing and camping, a cold beer or a stiff drink. He did not appreciate cold weather and loved going south in the winter. But most of all, Fred enjoyed time with family and friends.
