Kewley, Geraldine 'Gerry'
Geraldine “Gerry” Kewley, 82, of Marion, went to be with the Lord following a courageous battle with liver cancer on Friday, March 9, 2012, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. Services: 11 a.m. Monday, March 12, at Faith Lutheran Church, Marion, by the Rev. John Albertson. The family will greet friends one hour before the service at the church. Inurnment: Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion, at a later date.
Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Jim; four children, Jerry (Jane) Kewley of Texas, James (Jeanne) Kewley of Marion, Sharon Kewley (Stanley Tessel) of Florida and Jeff (Janette) Kewley of Marion; four grandchildren, Elizabeth (Christian) Owen, Lauren, Breanna and Emily Kewley; one great-granddaughter, Madeline Owen; and one brother, William Myers of Geneseo, Ill.
Gerry was born July 27, 1929, in Geneseo, Ill., the daughter of Gerald “J.W.” and Freida (Hollitz) Myers. She married James Leslie Kewley on May 8, 1949, in Geneseo. Gerry was a homemaker and also worked in retail sales for many years.
Gerry enjoyed spending summers in her garden and tending to her flowers and vegetables. She loved watching nature sitting on her patio. She never missed the master gardener show on the radio. Gerry had a wonderful, quick sense of humor. She loved to laugh and spend time with family. She enjoyed playing scrabble on Saturday afternoons. Gerry had a strong faith and loved her church family at Faith Lutheran Church in Marion. She was a remarkable lady and had amazing strength at the hardest times.
We wish to extend a special thank you to Dr. Bradley Beer and Dr. Chirantan Ghosh for their care and compassion and to all the caring staff at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy.
