Schoon, Rudolph 'Rudy' D.
Rudolph "Rudy" D. Schoon, 79, of Marion, died at home surrounded by his family and friends on Wednesday, July 20, 2011. Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories in Cedar Rapids by Pastor John Seitz, with military honors. Private inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. A visitation will be held Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home and after 10 a.m. Saturday at the chapel.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Janice; sons, Rick (Laurel) of Rock Island, Ill., Ronald (Donna) of Aledo, Ill., Randy (Kristy), Rodney, Charles (Brandi) and Marty, all of Marion, Robbie (Tamara) of San Antonio, Texas, and Jeffrey (Chris) of Killeen, Texas; special friends, September Shoudy and Donna Robbins; 22 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and his dog, Fred.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Sonny; sister, Ann Hyde; grandson, Joshua; sister-in-law, Louella Betts; and Flash, the hound dog.
Rudy, the son of Eggie and Zena (Otten) Schoon, was born Jan. 31, 1932, and raised in Monticello. He married Janice Destival Robbins on Sept. 17, 1965, in Lancaster, Mo. Rudy worked for the cities of Monticello and Marion, retiring in 1989. He was an Army veteran.
Rudy liked to fish, collect key chains and beer steins.
He will be remembered for his love of storytelling with family and friends. He never met a stranger and could always make a positive spin on any situation.
Instead of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Luke's Hospice.
The family would like to give special recognition to Dr. James Bell and staff at St. Luke's Hospice for the wonderful care Rudy received during his last days.
