Robert Marv Beer, 77, of Cedar Rapids, died Oct. 25, 2016, at his home, the result
of esophageal cancer.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, with a rosary service beginning at 5 p.m. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 28, at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, with visitation one hour before the service. Father Phil Thompson will officiate the service. Inurnment will take place at a later date.
Bob or Marv, as he was known to his family and friends, was born Robert Marvin Beer on March 30, 1939, in Festina, Iowa, to Raymond J. and Rose R. (Herold) Beer. He attended grade school in the Winneshiek county school system, Glenwood No. 4 Rockswold, and graduated from Decorah High School in 1958 and Mount Mercy College in 1997.
He worked at Rockwell Collins, retiring in 1995 after 36 years of service, and later worked at Plaza East Condominium.
Marv enjoyed working on his old cars and fixing almost anything.
His memory will be cherished by all who knew him and loved him.
Survivors include his wife, Regine (Jean), of 56 years; four sons, Robert Jr. (Jean) of Cedar Rapids, James (Angie) of Cedar Rapids, John (Val) of Hiawatha and Jeffery (Laura) of Cedar Rapids; one grandson, Jason; seven granddaughters, Stephanie (Reid) DeSotel, Megan, Elise, Jaycie, Katie, Lauren and Rylee; one great-granddaughter, Adelyn DeSotel; one brother, Gerald (Patricia); and one sister-in-law, June Beer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Raymond Beer; and sister, Arleen Collins.
In lieu of flowers, a donation in his memory may be sent to Hospice of Mercy or Camp Courageous.
