Barton, Joan M.
Joan M. Barton, 72, of Monticello, died Wednesday evening, Dec. 22, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 3 Monday afternoon, Dec. 27, at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, with interment in Oakwood Cemetery at a later date. The Rev. Al Polito will officiate at the services. Friends may call from noon until service time Monday at the funeral home.
Surviving are her husband, Bill Barton; three children, Linda (Tom) Osborne, Ely, and Tammy Barton, and Rick Barton, both of Monticello; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Janice (John) Brokens, Carrollton, Texas, Sharon (Bill) Kutcher, Oxford, and Mary Ann (Dave) Mullis, Greeley.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Shirley Otten.
Joan Marie Podhaski was born June 17, 1938, in Monticello, Iowa, the daughter of Carroll and Ruth (Kasper) Podhaski. She graduated from the Monticello Community Schools with the class of 1956. Joan married Bill Barton on Dec. 9, 1957, in Monticello. The couple resided in the Monticello area. Joan was employed at Collins Radio for 35 years, retiring in 1992. Joan had raised horses and emus and even a baby bear. She loved to garden, raising iris and lilies, and go to the Iowa Fair with her sisters, Janice and Mary Ann.
