Reade, Harry
Harry Reade, 80, died peacefully in his sleep Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2009, at Silvercrest of Anamosa after a period of declining health. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 Saturday morning, Aug. 29, at First Presbyterian Church, Monticello, with interment in Oakwood Cemetery, with military honors. The Rev. Al Polito will officiate at the services. Friends may call from 4 until 7 Friday at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, where Masonic services will be held at 7 p.m.

Surviving are his wife, Joan; four children, John of Las Vegas, Jan (Bob) Null and Jill (Rex) Cheney, both of Monticello, and Julie (Tom) Dunne,
Cascade; his brother, Robert (Mary Jo) Reade, Geneseo, Ill.; three grandchildren, Jerry (Melody) Pasker, Matt (Kelly) Pasker and Sarah Pasker; and four great-grandchildren, Gary, Brendan, Jaret and Jacie; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Leslie Harry Reade was born Dec. 12, 1928, at John McDonald Hospital, Monticello, Iowa, the son of Leslie and Hazel F. Widmer Reade. Harry was a member of the Monticello Community Schools class of 1946. He then started in his life's work as a truck driver. Harry Reade and Joan Hein were married Oct. 3, 1950, in Waverly. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952. The couple made their home in Monticello, where Harry operated Harry Reade Rendering Service. He retired from the rendering service business in 1987 but continued driving for Bill Murray, Don Starks and Swiss Valley Ag Service.
Harry was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Burns Lodge A.F.&A.M., where he was a past Worshipful Master, a Rainbow Dad, a retired member of the Monticello Fire Department, VFW, a past-president of the Monticello Golf Club, and a charter member of “The Factory.”
