JANET TAPKEN Cedar Rapids Janet R. Tapken, 80, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Friday, Feb. 6, 2015, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Visitation will be Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Phil Jorgensen officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Janet Rose Tapken was born Nov. 13, 1934, to Edmond and Rose Butler Archibald in Cedar Rapids. She was united in marriage to Marvin Tapken on Nov. 28, 1954, in Monticello. She enjoyed camping, cooking, gardening (she could grow anything because of her "green thumb"), and was a fan of the Chicago Cubs. Janet enjoyed being with her family, especially her grandchildren. She will always be remembered for her wonderful memory of important dates. Janet will be forever missed. She is survived by her loving husband, Marvin; children, Gary Tapken of Cedar Rapids, Susan (Jim) Warren of La Crosse, Wis., Brian Tapken and Eric Tapken, both of Cedar Rapids, and Nancy (Casey Harris) Tapken of Marion; brother, Charles (Wilma) Archibald of Central City; eight grandchildren; and several great-grand-children. Janet was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Merrill; and a brother, Paul Archibald. Memorial donations may be directed to Our Savior Lutheran Church.
