Reuter, Roy
Roy Reuter, 82, of Monticello, died Friday, Aug. 13, 2010, at his home following a brief battle with lung cancer. Funeral services will be held 10:30 Tuesday morning, Aug. 17, at St. Johns Lutheran Church, rural Monticello, with interment in Oakwood Cemetery. The Rev. Reed Stockman will officiate at the services. Friends may call from 4 until 8 Monday at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello.
Survivors are his wife, Evelyn; four children, Karla (Dan) McMurrin, Alburnett, James (Jackie) Reuter and Tom (Teresa) Reuter, both of Monticello, and Jerry (Barb) Reuter, Omaha; 10 grandchildren, Deanna (Blake) Frericks, Marion, Kevin McMurrin, Alburnett, Jennifer Reuter, Cedar Rapids, Jeremy, A.J., Michael, Mason and Zachary Reuter, all of Monticello, Jasmine and Colin Reuter, Omaha; three great-grandchildren, Riece, Madison and Alex Frericks of Marion; his sister, Ruth (Bob) Wahl, Monticello; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Roy Reuter was born Feb. 4, 1928, in South Fork Township, Delaware County, Iowa. He was the son of William and Margaret Hanken Reuter. Roy attended the rural schools near his home. He started farming on the family farm. Roy served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Following his return from military duty Roy worked at Cuckler Buildings in Monticello. Roy Reuter and Evelyn Larkin were married June 30, 1956, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids. The couple made their home in the Monticello area. In 1962, Roy left Cucklers and returned to farming. He retired from farming in 1990. Roy was a lifelong member of St. Johns Lutheran Church, where he was baptized and confirmed.
