VELMA ZUMBACH

Velma Zumbach, 84, went peacefully to her heavenly home, surrounded by her family, on Sunday, July 3, 2016. Funeral services will be 10:30 Friday morning, July 8, at Peace Lutheran Church, Ryan, with interment in Oakwood Cemetery, Monticello. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello.

Surviving are five children, Latha (Randy) Reiling, Winthrop, Garry (Carla) Zumbach and Debra (Carl) Keating, both of Monticello, Darla (Brad) Kimmerle, Dundee, and Louis J. (Deb) Zumbach, Coggon; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; a great-great- grandchild; and two sisters, Doris Yahnke, Marion, and Linda (Gary) Smith, Marengo.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Louis.
Velma Margaret Brockens was born Sept. 27, 1931, in Langworthy, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Hannah Doden Brockens. She was baptized at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church, where she confirmed her faith on May 20, 1945. Velma received her education in Monticello Community schools.
Velma M. Brockens and Louis R. Zumbach were married Oct. 15, 1950, at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church, rural Monticello. The couple farmed near Coggon. Louis preceded her in death on April 28, 1983. Velma moved to Monticello in 1998.
Velma was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, Ryan. She also was a member of the Merry Makers Club and Iowa and National Ayrshire Breeders Association.
Velma's greatest joy was spending time with her family.
The family would like to thank Velma's family, friends and neighbors and the staff of Pennington Square and Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for all their care and concern during the past three years.
