James Edwin Wild, 90, of rural Anamosa, passed away Sunday, May 15, 2016, at St Luke's Hospital surrounded by loving family members.
Jim was born at home on Sept. 24, 1925, on the farm where he lived his entire life. He graduated from Viola Consolidated School and immediately assumed responsibility for the family farm where he raised livestock and row crops. He married Lois Livingstone on June 23, 1945, in Anamosa. Early in his career he was recognized as an outstanding young farmer and was active in 4-H leadership. Jim served on the Viola and Anamosa community school boards, was a director for the Farmers' Cooperative Elevator in Martelle, was a lifelong member of Viola United Methodist Church and caretaker of the Wilcox Cemetery for 43 years.
Jim is survived by his wife, Lois; son, James R. Wild and wife Patti of Eldon, Mo.; daughter, Jean Dunn of rural Marion; and son, David and wife Barb of Robins. His grandchildren include Justin Wild and wife Joyce of Reinbeck, Jared Wild and wife Dodi of Anamosa, Ryan Dunn and wife Krista of Ankeny, Sean Dunn and wife Jennifer of Central City, Ashley Wild Hahesy and husband Will of Marion, Caroline Wild Woodmansee and husband Sean of Lake Zurich, Ill., Gregory Hand of Jacksonville, Fla., Daniel Hand of Olean, Mo., and Tricia Hand Grotzinger of Sedalia, Mo. He and Lois also had 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edd Wild and Carrie Dickenson Wild; sister, Pauline Wild Neville and husband O.H. Neville; sister, Vivian Wild Holcomb and husband Dillon Holcomb; parents-in-law, Robert and Evelyn Livingstone; and son-in-law, Lynn Dunn.
Jim enjoyed new foals in the spring, Hawkeye sports and driving a pickup with a loud muffler. Friends and family will long remember his sense of humor, generous spirit and willingness to help others.
The family wishes to thank Dr M. Naser Payvandi and team for 36 years of extraordinary cardiac care and compassion.
A memorial fund has been established.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 20, at the Viola Methodist Church with interment in the Wilcox Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 until 8 p.m. Friday at Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa.
