Wilma C. Merfeld, 89, of Monticello, died Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2016, at her home north of Monticello. Visitation will be from 9 until 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 2, at Kramer Funeral Home in Monticello. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with burial at Monticello Oakwood Cemetery. The Rev. Paul Baldwin will officiate.
Wilma Merfeld was born March 21, 1927, in Chadwick, Ill., the daughter of Albert "Lee" and Angie "Emma" (Brokens)
Sanford. Wilma married Albert Merfeld on Nov. 20, 1946, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Monticello. Together they farmed near Castle Grove, Anamosa and Sand Springs until settling on their farm north of Monticello.
She is survived by her two children, Linda (Paul) Hostak of Cedar Rapids and Tim (friend Carol) Merfeld of Central City; four grandchildren, Russell (Kara Tapken) Merfeld, Jake (Courtney) Merfeld, Brian (Carrie) Meeks and Brandy (Steve) Burge; six great-grandchildren; two siblings, Esther (Paul) Burrack of Marion and Richard Sanford of Monticello; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a sister, Leona (Lowell) Lincoln; and a sister-in-law, Rose Sanford.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Above and Beyond Hospice for the care they provided for Wilma.
