Iowa City West's Devontae Lane chooses basketball, Indian Hills

Devontae Lane's college decision went beyond picking a school. He also had to choose a sport.

The Iowa City West senior picked basketball and Indian Hills Community College, tweeting his commitment Thursday night.

'First off, I would like to thank all the schools that recruited me and gave me the chance to potentially play there,' Lane wrote. 'Secondly, I would like to thank my friends, family, and coaches because without them I would be nothing. With that being said, I'm very excited to announce my commitment to Indian Hills. Thank you for all your support.'

Lane was a two-time all-state guard and averaged 14.9 points, 3.4 rebounds and 4.0 assists for Class 4A state champion West this season. He shot 51 percent from the field, including 36.4 percent from 3-point range.

Indian Hills was 29-5 this season and advanced to the National Junior College Athletic Association Division I tournament.

Lane also considered playing football at the next level, with Division I potential in both sports. He rushed for 793 yards and 11 touchdowns on 122 carries as West finished second in Class 4A last fall.

'I love the game of basketball, I love football,' Lane said last week. 'One of them has to give. Eventually we'll know which one it is.'
