U.S. Sen. Joni Ernst made a public statement that she was sexually assaulted by a college boyfriend and physically abused by her ex-husband. She stated that she did not go to the police to report the sexual assault because it was so humiliating and embarrassing.
These are almost the exact words used by Dr. Christine Blasey Ford when she was asked by U.S. senators why she did not go to the police when she claimed to be sexually assaulted by Brett Kavanaugh. Republican senators made it clear that they doubted Ford's story because there was no police report.
Ernst did not go to the police. Does this make her story less credible?
The answer, of course, is no. Many sexual assaults go unreported. Ernst knows this, but voted to confirm Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court anyway. Party over ethics and compassion. That's Ernst's creed.
