Teach children to take the high road

I am absolutely appalled by the Kingsley Botchway's Aug. 16 column 'The time for change is now” and am surprised The Gazette would even publish it.
There is not a single positive word in this article.
I am blessed with two sons, both being minorities. I would never consider giving them such horrible advice. One is a graduate of Iowa State University and the other an assistant manager for a credit union. Both own their own homes and drive nice automobiles.
You see, we were always positive and encouraging. Sure, they were exposed to negative comments and discrimination. But, they took the high road and realized everyone faces some type of discrimination, whether too tall, too short, color of hair, religion, neighborhood or language to name a few.
This is far from a perfect world, but telling any child the advice given in this article could drive him to depression, anger and hate. I don't think this is the way to start out any child in today's world.
