JOHN A. SATARIANO Cedar Rapids John August Satariano, 92, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Thursday, March 16, 2017, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha with his loving family by his side. Funeral Mass, officiated by the Rev. John R. Flatherty, will be held on Thursday, March 23, at 10 a.m. at All Saints Catholic Church. Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 22, from 4 to 7 p.m., with a rosary and vigil service at 6 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will follow the funeral Mass at St. John's Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. John was born Dec. 11, 1924, in Pittsburgh, Pa., to John and Catherine Satariano. Following graduation from high school, John proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He fell in love with Rose Pusateri, and on Aug. 21, 1952, they were united in marriage at Immaculate Conception Church in Cedar Rapids. John worked for the Cedar Rapids Police Department in the records room from 1963 to 1987. After his retirement, John spent time at Mercy Medical Center as a volunteer, logging over 10,000 hours. He enjoyed going for walks, listening to music from the '40s, and was a big supporter of the local Class A baseball team here in Cedar Rapids. John is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Rose; their three sons, Thomas (Kim) of Lee's Summit, Mo., and Frank (Dorothy) and Tony (Jo), both of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Nicholas (Stephanie), Abbie (Josh) Barta, Christopher (fiance Bryson) and Michael (Amanda) Boots; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Mercy or All Saints Catholic Church.
