BONNIE PETERSEN KRAUSE
Grass Valley, Calif.
Bonnie Petersen Krause was born on July 28, 1926, in Independence, Iowa, and passed away Nov. 23, 2018, in Grass Valley, Calif., the day after Thanksgiving. She was raised in Winthrop and Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Upon high school graduation, she moved to Southern California to take a job as a typist for the U.S. Navy Supply Depot during World War II. After the war, she returned to Iowa to meet and marry Richard Krause.
They decided to move to California and settled in Hawthorne. There they raised two daughters, and Bonnie eventually became a cafeteria manager for the school district so she could be on the same schedule as her girls. As a couple, Bonnie and Dick made life-long friends, especially from their square dancing groups. They enjoyed dancing and could glide like glass doing the Lindy Hop or "Cedar Rapids Shuffle."
Bonnie enjoyed dabbling in crafts, but was especially skilled at sewing and knitting. Since the family had taken up snow skiing, she was always busy making a sweater. Upon retirement, Bonnie and Dick purchased a home in Cerritos and remained there until Dick passed away in 1994, the day after Thanksgiving. Aided by her eldest daughter, she purchased a home in a nearby retirement community, where she lived for 10 years before moving to an assisted-living facility in Northern California near to her youngest daughter and family. She was a resident there for 11 years and had come to be loved by the entire staff for her feisty sense of humor and advice for the young.
Surviving her are children, Mrs. Cathy Griffith and Mrs. Shelley Bryan; grandchildren, Chelsea Andre Bryan, John Bryan, Tara Baker and Devin Griffith; and eight wonderful great-grandchildren.
Bonnie is preceded in death by her husband, Dick Krause.
Per her request, there will be no services held. Interment will take place at Forest Lawn Cemetery at a later date.
