Zuber, Mervin E.
Mervin E. Zuber, 72, of Marengo, died Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009, at home following an extended illness. Funeral Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday St. John's Lutheran Church with the Rev. Doug Morton officiating. Burial: Marengo Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Kloster Funeral Home.
A memorial fund has been established.
Mervin is survived by his son, Roy Zuber and wife Sue of Mesa, Ariz; daughter, Vicki Cobb and husband Rich of Marengo; four grandchildren, April R. Zuber, Heather S. Zuber, Jacob R. Cobb, and Joseph E. Cobb; and sisters, Shirley Slaymaker of Mount Pleasant, S.C., and Joyce Burke and her husband Lewis of Marengo.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Ruth.
Mervin was born Feb. 28, 1937, in Iowa County, the son of Ernest Emil Zuber and Alma Margaret Teggatz. He attended the Marengo Schools. Mervin married Ruth L. Stambaugh on Aug. 30, 1958, at St. John's Lutheran Church, in Homestead.
He was employed as a steel worker by CedarRapids Inc., retiring from there. Previously, he had been employed by Iowa Steel and Iron Works. In earlier years, he worked at Victor Plastics, Iowa Soil Conservation Service, and Pioneer Seed Corn.
Mervin was a member of the Civil Air Patrol, Lutheran Dartball League, and Allis Chalmers Connection. He also assisted with the Cub and Boy Scouts. He enjoyed flying, fishing, welding, fabricating, and the great outdoors.
