Claude "Jim" Hayes, 73, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2017, in the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy with his loving family with him. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery-Tranquility Garden by Cedar Memorial Certified Celebrant Paula Meyer. Following the graveside service will be a gathering at the Cedar Memorial Family Center & Library, where family will greet friends from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
Claude was born Aug. 23, 1944, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Leo and Claudean (Anderson) Hayes. He married Karen Bilsland on July 3, 1964, in Iowa City, Iowa. Claude was quality control for Hawkeye Rubber Co. in Cedar Rapids. He was hands down a true fisherman, fishing every chance he could. He also enjoyed hunting, mushroom hunting, metal detecting and checking out the casinos. Claude was a member of the Moose Lodge. He enjoyed his time spent with his family and friends, and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Karen; his sons, James (Tara) Hayes of Cedar Rapids and Dean (Patti) Hayes of Cedar Rapids; and his siblings, Ruthann Goble of Belvedere, Ill., Raedean (Mike) Ryan of Waukon, Iowa, and Martin (Debbie) Hayes of Center Point, Iowa. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Cortney (Josh) Hayler, Cailee Hayes (Brandon Whittlesey), Cody (Melinda) Kreis, Brittney Hayes, Sydnee (Steve) Peterson and Justin Hayes; and great-grandchildren, Kenadee, Kael, Rykin and Blaire.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Claudean (Susie) Hayes and William Soper; and his in-laws, Jack and Margaret Ritchie and William Bilsland.
