Michael Allan Serovy was born Sept. 15, 1950, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Allan and Pearl (Carlson) Serovy. He was united in marriage to Terry Ann Knepp on Sept. 18, 1969, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Solon. Mike served in the United States Army, National Guard and the Army Reserves. As a veteran he had worked at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Iowa City for over 28 years, retiring this year. He took great pride in assisting other veterans with their health care needs and benefits. Mike never hesitated to use his medical experience to assist others in need.
Mike loved to hunt and fish. When he was no longer able to do so, he lived vicariously through his children and grandchildren. Mike was so proud of his children. He loved to watch them as they grew up participating in school sports and activities, and later in their life's accomplishments. He was a proud grandfather of three grandsons. Whenever he could, he was there spending time with them, whether it was his two grandsons in Texas or his grandson here in Iowa. He truly was a family man who loved getting together with all of his family.
His family includes his wife, Terry; son, Andrew (Lisa) Serovy of Iowa City; daughter, Angela Burke of Longview, Texas; grandsons, Zachary Serovy, Logan Burke and Slaten Burke; Mike's parents, Allan and Pearl Serovy of Solon; brother, Larry (Judy) Serovy of Solon; sister, Carol (Andy) Fields of Solon; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by an infant sister; his brother, Ron; and his grandparents.
Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Mike's family and his services.
