Gary D. Ewald, 68, of Marion, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 2, 2020, at West Ridge Care Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 27, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion.
Gary was born Jan. 26, 1952, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the son of Ray and Neva (Fisher) Ewald. He graduated from Sigourney High School. Gary was a U.S. Postal Service mail carrier for 35 years in California and Marion, retiring in 2017. He loved music and going to concerts. Gary enjoyed sporting events and was a huge Iowa Hawkeyes fan.
He is survived and lovingly remembered by his daughter, Melody Ewald of Raleigh, N.C.; stepdaughter, Trisha Thurston of Florida; step-granddaughter, Harper; sisters, Linda (Denny) Weber and Nancy (Steve) Quelle, all of Cedar Rapids; brother, Ron Ewald of West Branch, Iowa; sister-in-law, Kathy Ewald of Keota, Iowa; numerous nieces and nephews; and his Australian Shepherd/Blue Healer mix dog and best friend, Cooper.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents and brother, LeRoy.
