Richard L. Covington Jr., 74, of Monticello, died Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2017, at the Iowa City VA Health Care System.
A visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20, at Kramer Funeral Home in Monticello. Visitation will continue from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, at the funeral home. A graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. in St. Joseph Cemetery, Prairieburg. The Rev. Ed Moreano will officiate.
Richard was born Oct. 13, 1942, in Marion, Iowa, the son of Richard and Laura (Holub) Covington. He graduated from Monticello High School with the Class of 1961. He served in the U.S. Army for six years and continued with the National Guard for another three years. He married Lila Woods on Dec. 19, 1966, in Lampasas, Texas. He worked at Nash Finch for 28 years and retired in 2005.
Richard is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lila; a son, Rick Covington, and a daughter, Laurie (Jim) Chapman, both of Monticello; six grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; a sister, Diane Avery LeClere of Monticello; a sister-in-law, Sandy Covington of Monticello; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Bill and Jim Covington.
