UI to pay $166,000 to employee who charged discrimination

IOWA CITY - A University of Iowa College of Dentistry professor who filed a discrimination complaint against the school has agreed to a $166,000 settlement, according to newly released documents.
Andrew Lidral, a professor in the UI Department of Orthodontics, filed the charge with the Iowa Civil Rights Commission in July 2014, according to a newly released settlement made public by the Board of Regents.
Details of the complaint have not been made public.
The agreement stipulates Lidral's employment with the university will decrease from full-time to part-time beginning Jan. 1, and he has agreed to resign no later than July 31, 2016.
His job duties, according to the settlement, will continue to include service on the College of Dentistry admissions committee, lecturing and mentoring scholars and medical fellows.
The University of Iowa, according to the agreement, has agreed to pay Lidral $143,000 and his attorney $23,000. The settlement is not an admission of wrongdoing, according to the documents.
