GARY "LUMPY" LAMPAREK Cedar Rapids Gary Patrick Lamparek "Lumpy," 51, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, April 14, 2015, at St. Luke's Living Center West. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 17, at St. Ludmila Catholic Church. Private family inurnment will be Saturday in Castek Cemetery near Swisher. Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Thursday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW, where there will be a 7:30 p.m. vigil. Gary was born Dec. 31, 1963, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Leo and Leota (Benda) Lamparek. Gary graduated in 1982 from Cedar Rapids Prairie High School, where he excelled in sports. He was a member of the 1981 state championship football team and held the shot put record at Prairie until his son, Ryan, broke the record in 2005. He graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in 1986 with a degree in Spanish education. He married Darla Fusselman on June 6, 1987, in Des Moines. They had two sons, Ryan and Michael. He was later married to Deborah Kuhn Collins on Dec. 8, 2012, in Fairfax. Gary worked for over 21 years at Toyota Financial Services as a bilingual claims specialist. Gary devoted his life to his boys and shared his love for track and field with them. He loved sports, running, weight lifting, coaching, cooking, sharing his stories and humor, the Prairie Hawks, and spending time with his family. Gary is survived by his wife, Deb; two sons, Ryan Lamparek (fiancee Meg Hansen) of West Des Moines and Michael Lamparek of Cedar Rapids; father, Leo Lamparek of Cedar Rapids; step-daughters, Brittany Collins and Courtney Collins of Cedar Rapids; siblings, Merlin Lamparek, Ronald (Rose) Lamparek and Linda Lamparek, all of Cedar Rapids; one niece, Jenna Lamparek of Ankeny; two nephews, Casey and Keegan Lamparek of Mount Vernon; as well as aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, Leota, and his grandparents. Memorials may be directed to the family.
