Kenneth Dean Garringer was born July 27, 1948, in Williamsburg, the son of James and Anne (Welsh) Garringer. He graduated from Williamsburg High School and attended Upper Iowa University. Kenny lived in Shreveport, La., for a number of years before returning to Williamsburg in 1987. He had worked for Kinze Manufacturing for 25 years before retiring. Kenny enjoyed traveling, spending time with family and watching the Chicago Cubs and the Iowa Hawkeyes. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Kenny passed away on Friday, Aug. 28, 2020, at the Highland Ridge Care Center in Williamsburg at the age of 72.
He is survived by two sisters, Mary (Don) Grimm of Williamsburg and Jan (Steve) Fick of Cedar Rapids; two brothers, Ray (Fonda) Garringer and Paul (Chris) Garringer all of Williamsburg; nine nieces and nephews, Mitch Fick, Rachel (Kyle) Vanourny, Lance Garringer, Bryson (Annie) Garringer, Bree Garringer, Austin (Summer) Hilligas, Trenton (Ellie) Garrringer, Anna (Michael) McMillan and Ashley (Brandon) Dietrich; and seven great-nieces and -nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Patricia Garringer.
Private family funeral Mass will be Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2020, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Williamsburg. Social distancing will be practiced. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, Aug. 31, 2020, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg.
