Mackel, Geri
Geri Mackel, 70, died Sept. 15, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, St. Paul's Catholic Church, Newhall, by Father Jack McClure C.PP.S. Burial: Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Blairstown. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the church.
She was born Geri Donovan on March 25, 1939, in Brandon, Iowa, and graduated from Brandon High School. On Oct. 15, 1960, she married Gene Mackel and together they had four children, Brad Mackel, Debbie Rosenthal (Alan), Carol Mackel (Michael) and Shellie Mackel (Kurt). Their four children brought her many grandchildren, Jannette, Jamie, Ryan, Tyler, Riley, Sully, Danny, Gabe, Aiden and Cainin as well as three granddogs, Annie, Molly and Mandy.
Geri worked at Rockwell-Collins for 30 years and upon retirement moved to Atkins. She was known for the many quilts she sewed for various homeless shelters in the Cedar Rapids/Marion area as well as countless other volunteer activities. She also loved baking, gardening, reading and sewing, but above all her greatest joy was her family.
In lieu of flowers, donations will be taken for Waypoint and Susan G. Komen Foundation.
Arrangements are with Brosh Funeral Service, Norway.
