Holzinger, Dolores Lucille
Dolores Lucille Holzinger died Monday, Sept. 23, 2013, in the Anamosa Care Center after fighting a short battle, since early August, when she learned she had lymphoma and six months, six days after losing her husband, Roy. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, at the Lahey Funeral Home in Wyoming. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Zion American Lutheran Church in Wyoming, Pastor Ginger Anderson officiating. Burial will be in the Wyoming Cemetery.
Dolores Topping was born April 24, 1924, the oldest child of George and Bernice (Coleman) Topping. She was raised on farms near Hopkinton, Hale and Wyoming and attended many rural schools, including the “Stone Jug” near Hale. She graduated from Wyoming High school in 1942. On June 7, 1942, Dolores Topping was united in marriage with Roy Holzinger. During January 1943 Roy enlisted in the Army Air Force and was eventually stationed at Biloxi, Miss., where Dolores joined him until his honorable discharge.
After the World War II, Roy and Dolores made their home briefly in Olin, before moving to Clarence for several years and then finally settling in Wyoming, Iowa. Dolores was a loving wife of 70 years and was most recently care taker for Roy before his death. She was a great practical and spiritual role model and mother for her two children. She also was a teacher's aid during the late 1960s at the Midland Wyoming grade school.
