Condon, Donald E.
Donald E. Condon, 81, of 800 Winterberry Pl. NE, passed away Wednesday, July 21, 2010, from complications of lupus and diabetes. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. The Rev. Douglas Miller will officiate. Inurnment, with military honors: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral home.
Survivors include his wife, Laurel; two daughters, Debra (John) Walz of Burlington and Kathy Condon of Marion; two granddaughters, Ellen Walz of Arlington, Va., and Lauren (Chad) Zenisek of Coralville; a sister, Jean Stone of Waterloo; and six nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Irmel Condon; and a nephew, Ronald Stone.
Don was born Sept. 16, 1928, in Manchester, Iowa. He graduated from Mason City High School. He married Laurel Laschanzky on June 13, 1952, in Cedar Rapids.
Don served in Europe while in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952. He was in the 2nd Armored, 57th Medium Tank Battalion, and was a member of Marion American Legion Post 298. He worked for Iowa Manufacturing Co. (Terex Corporation) for 35 years. After retirement in December 1990, he and his wife traveled to Europe, Panama Canal, and throughout the United States, spending winters in Arizona. They eventually bought a home in Arkansas, where they lived for four years before returning to Cedar Rapids.
Military honors by Marion American Legion Post 298.
