Charles William May, 88, of Anamosa, passed away peacefully Friday, May 20, 2016, surrounded by his loving family at his home. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon, with a Celebration of Life beginning at 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 26, at Martelle United Methodist Church. A luncheon will follow at the church. Inurnment will be at a later date.
Charles is survived by his daughter, Becky (Bernie) Gorsch of Marengo; stepchildren, Jerry Plower of Rapid City, S.D., Susan Cavadel of Stone City and Jim Plower of Stone City; siblings, Bob (Connie) May of Marion, Rose Millis of Cedar Rapids and Ron (Ginny) May of Anamosa; grandchildren, Candi (Mitch Goodell) Fraley, Liz (Ed Langurst) Fraley and Phillip (Carrie) Fraley; and additional loving grandchildren, great- grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Jackie May; former spouses, Eutona Kohl, Edna Bader and Johann Nesley; and two grandsons, Justin and Jason May.
Charles William May was born Oct. 19, 1927, in Kampsville, Ill., the son of Floyd and Vivan (Stevens) May. Charles was very active in his church, Martelle United Methodist Church, and the Stone City Community Center. Charles enjoyed string art, gardening, building clocks, puzzles and especially spending time with his grandchildren.
Charles was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.
He will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him.
