Gorden, Opal R.
Opal R. Gorden, 79, of Brockton, Mass., formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, May 16, 2011, at Champion Rehabilitation & Health Center, Brockton, following a short illness. Funeral services: 11 a.m. Monday, May 23, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, with the Rev. Dr. T. Edwards Breed officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until service time at the chapel on Monday. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include her daughter, Pamela (David) Martin-Gordon of Chandler, Ariz.; son, Kevin (Pamela) Gorden of Marion; sisters, Gladys Boyer of Princeton, Ill., and Irene Putney of Kansas City, Kan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Raymond in 1964; son, Victor in 1974; brothers, Floyd of White Plains, N.Y., and Bruce of Port Charlotte, Fla.; and sister, Eunice of Des Moines.
Opal R. Boyer was born July 7, 1931, in Adel, Iowa, the daughter of Marion and Stella (Tyrell) Boyer. On July 10, 1950, she married Raymond F. Gorden in Des Moines.
She was a former member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a memorial to The Trees Remember at in Opal's name.
