Ronald Sanborn, 70, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2019, in his home. Celebration of Life services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. Burial will be in St. John's Catholic Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, 2019, at Brosh Chapel.
Ron was born July 9, 1948, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Kenneth and Angie (Holets) Sanborn. He graduated Prairie High School, Class of 1966. Ron served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He was united in marriage to Maxine Wahe on June 16, 1968. They later were divorced. He was united in marriage to Linda Hangartner on Oct. 14, 1977. Ron attended Kirkwood College for engineering and design work. He was employed as a machinist. Later, he pursued his lifelong passion for restoring cars, owning and operating Riverside Sports Cars. He was a member of the SCCA as well as the Eagles Club and Moose Lodge. Ron served as a scout master in Troops 6 and 42. He enjoyed fishing, reading, listening to jazz music, watching sprint cars and F1 Racing, shooting pool, as well as spending time with his family, especially the grandkids.
Ron is survived by his children, Scott (Sabrina) Sanborn, Jason Hangartner, David (Tiphanie) Sanborn and Andrew (Michelle) Sanborn; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his siblings, Wayne (Joan) Sanborn, Daryl Sanborn and Kevin (Patty) Sanborn; as well as his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Linda; his sister, Carole Lodgston; and his brother, Barry Lee Sanborn.
