The Rev. Ronald J. Morrow, 76, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, May 23, 2016, at St. Luke's Hospital. Services at 11 a.m. Friday at Gospel Light Baptist Church. The Rev. Tom Williams will officiate. There will be a meal and a time of fellowship immediately after the service. Entombment at 3 p.m. Friday at the Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of a visitation, we will be honoring him during the Wednesday Night Service at 7 p.m. at the church. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Betty; a son, the Rev. Kip (Nelly) of Cedar Rapids and Deke (Bridget) of Marion; a daughter, Tapi (David) Hedger of Granite Bay, Calif.; one brother, Robert (Sharon) of Cedar Rapids; and a sister, Jean (Steve) Bowman of Florida. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Lauren, Devin, Montana, Becky, Remington, Royce, Victoria and Zane; and one great-grandchild, Lyla.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Richard; and a grandchild, Lucas.
The Rev. Ron was born Feb. 20, 1940, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Robert and Maysel Smith Morrow. He was a student in the first graduating class from Jefferson High School in 1958. He married Betty J. Smith on July 9, 1960, in Cedar Rapids.
The Rev. Ron worked for 25 years at King's Concrete, starting as a dispatcher and later becoming their general manager. In 1980, the Rev. Ron was called to the ministry and founded the Gospel Light Baptist Church where he has been the senior pastor the past 37 years.
His family and his ministry were paramount in his life. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and pastor. The Rev. Ron received an honorary doctorate degree from Hyles-Anderson College in Crown Point, Ind.
He enjoyed photography, traveling with Betty, classic and muscle cars and especially the time spent with his family, church family and many, many friends. His memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
