Kenneth James Shaw, 85, died Tuesday, May 8, 2018, at Rose Haven Nursing Home in Marengo following a two-month battle with cancer. Visitation will be held from noon until 2 p.m. Thursday, May 10, at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. Sixth St., Vinton, followed by a graveside service at Oakwood Cemetery, Shellsburg, with the Rev. Duane Potter officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the M.J. Kirby American Legion Post No. 170 of Blairstown. A memorial fund has been established.
Kenneth was born July 23, 1932, in Osterdock, Iowa, the son of James and Mabel (Bond) Shaw. He served his country in the U.S. Army. On July 17, 1982, he was united in marriage to Shirley Abernathey in Blairstown.
Kenneth worked as a truck driver, most notably with J.M. Swank and dearly loved his profession. In his spare time, he was an avid fisherman.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley of Blairstown; children, Sheryl (Bob) Nieland, Cindy (Dick) McBride, Carolyn (Frank) Kohlmeyer, Sandee (Roger) Beck, Roberta (Jerry) Macauley and Bill (Dana) Glime; 16 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Cynthia, in infancy; daughter, Jolynn (Robert) Molenburg, and their children Echotrina, Atrail and Calina; granddaughter, Brittney Glime; and his siblings Vi, Olie and Mary
