Schumacher, Gloria L.
Gloria L. Schumacher, 72, of Marengo, died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012, following a courageous battle with cancer. Per her wishes, her body was donated to the University of Iowa for research-study. Memorial Service: 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, with the Rev. Katie Dawson officiating. Inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Marengo, at a later date. The family will receive friends from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Gloria is survived by her husband, Larry; a son, Vance (Adrienne) of Cedar Rapids; a daughter, Serena Brueggemeyer (Erik) of Cedar Rapids; and four grandchildren, Austin and Emily Schumacher and Tyler and Brayden Brueggemeyer. She is also survived by her mother, Alice Hayes of Marengo; a sister, Elaine Cooney (Gary) of Hudson; and a sister-in-law, Florence Hayes of Belle Plaine.
She was preceded in death by her father, Howard Hayes; and a brother, John.
Gloria Lee Hayes was born Aug. 2, 1940, in Pittsfield, Ill., the daughter of Howard and Alice Tucker Hayes. She graduated from Marengo High School with the class of 1958 and married Larry Schumacher on Aug. 26, 1961, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Marengo. Gloria was employed as a secretary for the Superintendent of Iowa Valley Schools for many years. She also served as secretary for the Iowa Valley school board.
Gloria was an avid reader in her free time. She also cherished the time she spent with her children and grandchildren.
A memorial fund has been established in Gloria's name.
