Sorry, running around. Since KCRG was sold, The Gazette has been working on moving. That came due this week, and I'm working on moving to Iowa City.
So, busy.
Anyway, I agree with Dolph.
!!!!!!!
We think CB Desmond King has been Iowa's first-half-of-the-season MVP. He's been shutdown on defense and has made a pretty big impact on special teams.
I go:
1. Desmond King
2. C.J. Beathard
3. Jordan Canzeri
4. It was Drew Ott
5. Austin Blythe/Marshall Koehn
- Liked what Dolph said about true frosh WR Emmanuel Ogwo's lateral quickness. It'll be interesting to see him next fall.
- An Iowa State fan called the Iowa radio show. I understand the camaraderie angle, but that's some broken Cheeto stuff right there.
- If you watched the interviews Tuesday and listened to what Kirk Ferentz said, you've probably already figured out that CJB wouldn't practice this week. Again, not a hernia, but a groin injury.
I've seen the 'Cheers” GIFs of Sam Malone saying 'Ga Ga Ga groin injury” on the Tweeter. That show is vintage now. Great bit, too.
- KF has been on for about a half hour. I missed the injury update part.
Dolph opened the show by saying CJB would definitely play. KF said that this week, too. CJB said that, too. I think he will try to play.
Dolph talked about redshirt freshman Tyler Wiegers and his prep. Obviously, CJB is compromised, and so there's been some lead time to prepare Wiegers, who gets the reps CJB is missing this week. Remember 2009 when James Vandenberg went in against Northwestern basically unprepared? KF made the point that most teams in the country weren't dishing out loads of reps to their No. 2. I agree and totally see that point.
Plus, that was sudden change. Ricky Stanzi suffered an ankle injury and couldn't continue. In went Vandenberg, who was a million miles better the next week at Ohio State when he knew he would start and had a full week to prep.
I think Wiegers has been on high alert.
Caller asked what CJB's first name is. I'm pretty sure 'CJ” stands for Cujo Judo. (It's Casey and then Junior, I believe.)
- An MVP vote for the linebackers. The callers have been all over the place on this. That has to be a good sign for Iowa, right?
All three - Josey Jewell, Cole Fisher and Ben Niemann - have been terrific.
- No Hawk Talk radio show next week. It's the bye week, you know.
- Bubba votes for Coach Furrenz.
- Someone earlier voted for strength coach Chris Doyle as MVP. That's pretty good.
- Another vote for coach Ferentz. It does kind of drive me crazy that his name still gets mispronounced. Then again, not everyone's name is fool-proof. Morehouse, that one is easy.
- Our podcast was eaten by the computer today.
- I forgot everything about it.
- Good night.
