Leona L. Rocarek, 95, of Cedar Rapids, died on Thursday, July 28, 2016, at Urbandale Health Care Center in Urbandale. Celebration of Life services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3, at Brosh Chapel & The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. Burial will follow in the Czech National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Brosh Chapel & The Avacentre.
Leona was a longtime resident of the southwest side of Cedar Rapids until recently moving to Urbandale Health Care Center with her husband, Marvin, to be near their daughter.
Leona was born on Oct. 31, 1920, in rural Shueyville to Joseph and Libbie Louvar. She was the oldest of three sisters. Leona lived on the family farm until moving to Cedar Rapids in her late teens.
Leona met the love of her life, Marvin, in 1941 and was married shortly afterward. She was a devoted wife and mother, married to Marvin for 74 years.
Leona and Marvin were longtime members of the former Eden United Church of Christ. Throughout her life, Leona enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling and attending Eden Church. Leona will be remembered by all as a person who was kind and considerate to everyone.
Leona is survived by her son, Richard (Sue) of Cedar Rapids; daughter, Lorna (Roy) Jones of Urbandale/Des Moines; sisters, Irene Petrik of Swisher and Anna Klimes of Neenah, Wis.; granddaughter Laicy (Steve) and great-granddaughter, Abby Marotti, of Derby, Kan.; and granddaughter, Shelley Jones of Urbandale.
Leona was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin, on June 10, 2016.
