By Jill Higgins: I was working in the conferencing department for then MCI, now Verizon Business, taking a reservation for a conference call from a gentleman that was located in the UK. During our conversation he said to me, "I am so sorry about what has happened in your country. You're all in my prayers." I had no idea what he was talking about. I told him that I was sorry, but that I had not heard the news, and then he told me that we had suffered a terrorist attack and that the twin towers had been hit in New York.
The news soon spread throughout our floor, and everyone was trying to get ahold of their children and families to confirm their safety. Trying to focus on our jobs for the rest of the day was difficult to say the least. At the end of the work day, I went home and turned on the news, only to be shocked and heartbroken by the images that were being shown on television.
Even after 10 years, those images still bring sadness and disbelief to me, that such an unthinkable act could ever happen.
