Trial set for suspect in Iowa City stabbing

A trial date has been set for the suspect involved in a June 1 Iowa City stabbing.
Raymond L. Spears, 52, is scheduled to go before a jury on August 16. His pre-trial conference is set for August 5.
Spears is charged with attempted murder and willful injury causing serious injury. He entered a written plea of not guilty on Monday, June 21 according to Johnson County court records.
The victim, whose name was not released, had multiple stab wounds in the back and was admitted to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics on June 1.
Both Spears and the victim are transients, Iowa City police said.
