Michael Bell, 59, of Oxford, died unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, June 18, 2016. A gathering of friends and family to celebrate Mike's life will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 25, at the Coralville Reservoir, Turkey Creek Shelter (East Overlook), with the remembrance happening at 1:30 p.m. sharp! Mike was born Aug. 28, 1956, at Mercy Iowa City, the son of Russell and Bonnie (Frederick) Bell. Mike most recently was employed at Carew Landscaping. Previously, he had driven a cement truck for several companies, finally landing with Croell. While at Croell, he became quality control manager and worked with the Iowa Department of Transportation on materials and architectural planning for highway, nuclear waste storage, airport and various other projects contributing to community safety. He was an anything-but-amateur musician, entertaining nightspot goers by playing guitar in various cover bands, from Felt, Strutt, The Dial Tones, Hot House, Cats & Jammers and Strayt Up. Mike was also a hobbyist woodworker, avid gun collector and hunter with a great respect for nature and nature conservation.
Mike was preceded in death by his grandparents; his father, Russell Bell; and two sons, Justin and Taylor.
He is survived by his sons, Joshua (Colleen) Bell of Pflugerville, Texas, Brady Bell of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Jared Bell of Coralville; his mother, Bonnie Bell of Kalona; brothers and sisters, Julie Bell, Jeffery (Debby) Bell, James Bell and Scott Bell; his former wives, Vikki Bell of Coralville and Mary Bell of Iowa City; many nieces and nephews; and his dog, Jeb.
