Lyla Fern Williams, 84, of Fairfax, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2018, at the Iowa Veterans Home, Marshalltown. A private family service will be held at Teahen Funeral Home. Burial: Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton.
Lyla is survived by her husband, Ray; daughter, Deborah (Dan) Patterson of Cedar Rapids; son, Scott (Teresa) Williams of New Bloomfield, Mo.; and four grandchildren, Cory and Cassandra Patterson, Stephanie (Chris) Hoeman and Austin Williams.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Daryl, Dwight and Wendall Mick; and an infant sister.
Lyla was born April 5, 1933, in Pella, the daughter of Lyle and Ethel Wilson Mick. She married Ray Williams on July 31, 1953, at Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland. She proudly served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1954.
Lyla was a member of Fairfax American Legion and spent many years as a candy striper at St. Luke's Hospital. She enjoyed working with ceramics and spending winters in Texas after her retirement. Her grandchildren were her greatest pride and joy.
