Maynard 8 Miles author appearing in Maynard on Saturday

MAYNARD — Author Brian Borland and others will be on hand for a book signing of his work, 'Maynard 8 Miles' from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday at West Central High School.

Screenwriter Angelo Pizzo, who is writing the film based on the book, also will be in attendance, as well as several players from the Maynard High School girls' state basketball championship team from 1956.

The event includes a book signing and a question-and-answer session from 4:30 to 5. Signed books will be on sale for $15 to the general public, $10 for all students. With every book purchase, buyers will be entered into a raffle to win a piece of the original Maynard gym floor.

'Maynard 8 Miles' is based on the life of Borland's mother, Carolyn Nicholson Borland, a forward on the '56 title team.
