Alice Mae Cole, 83, died peacefully Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2015, at Mercy Hospice. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hills, with Father Michael
Spiekermeier officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the church in Hills. The Altar and Rosary will recite a rosary at 4 p.m. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus
Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, friends may contribute to masses or the Alice Cole Memorial Fund.
Alice was born Jan. 13, 1932, in Newport Township, Johnson County, Iowa, the daughter of John Francis and Lydia Dvorsky Sedlacek. She was a graduate of St. Mary's High School. Alice married Dean R. Cole on April 20, 1950, at St. Wenceslaus in Iowa City.
Alice and Dean farmed for many years in the Riverside area.
Alice was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Hills, where she had served as Eucharistic minister, sang in the choir, and was a member of Altar and Rosary. She volunteered at Atrium Village and was a member of the KUB Club and the Hills Town and Country Club.
Alice liked to bake kolaches and angel food cakes, make homemade noodles, garden, can, play cards and raise calves and chickens. Most important to Alice was time spent with her family.
Alice is survived by her 10 children, Ron (Shari) Cole of Iowa City, Kathy (Dave Sr.) Dalton of Lake City, Fla., Jolene (Andy) Colthurst of Washington, Iowa, Randy (Chris) Cole, Roger (Laurie) Cole, Rodney (Jen) Cole, Robert (Kim) Cole and Rick (Julie) Cole, all of Riverside; Nancy (Scott) Hebl of Hills and Mary Ellen (Joel) Yedlik of Lone Tree; 20 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dean in 2007; her brother, Don Sedlacek; and her sister, Marcella Beltz; and her granddaughter, Kellie.
