Letter: Godwin is right choice for school board
Multiple Iowa City voters
Aug. 20, 2017 1:00 am
We are voting for Janet Godwin for school board on Sept. 12. Here's why.
She is a supporter of the GO Bond and completing the facilities master plan (FMP). At a time when there is so much splintering among factions in our country, the FMP and GO Bond demonstrate our community is united in the effort to provide for all our students' needs in the district, not setting needs of students in one area of the district against the needs of another with a series of smaller bonds.
To meet demands of a changing job market, we need innovative ways to provide our students with skills to achieve future success. We must explore a range of programs to prepare students for new jobs and the competition for those jobs. She understands this and supports examination of new ways to meet the urgent need.
A strategic goal of the district is to provide school environments that are culturally inclusive and supportive of students from all backgrounds. She pledges to stay focused on this district goal.
As members of this community, we want assurance our schools and students are on the most positive path we can provide, and a school board with the vision to set that positive path working hand-in-hand with all interested community parties. We want strong decision-makers and straightforward communicators with the experience to produce the outcomes they envision. She possesses these qualities. This is why we choose to vote for her. Join us Sept. 12.
